Spring Homeschool Programs Overview

Carefully crafted since 2011, our homeschool programs provide a progressive learning journey and comprehensive foundation in deeply relating to the natural world.

Forest Floor also offers seasonal Fall & Winter homeschool programs, and our nine month Heartwood program.

Spring 2025 registration is now closed and with programs under way.

We’re excited to announce a new location in Fletcher with a Thursday program for ages 7-11.

Through games, stories, and exploration children learn about: Outdoor safety and awareness, animal tracking, edible and medicinal wild plants, wilderness survival skills, bird language, ancient crafts, ecology, community, self-discovery, storytelling, singing, fire, and much, much more.

Ages 7-11

Mountain Mondays

February 24 – May 19, 2025

Greet the forest as it wakes up from winter slumber and enjoy the vibrant green of new growth. We’ll explore, play games, learn skills and connect guided by our experienced  nature connection mentors.

Tuesdays

Ages 6-8

Crafty Critters

February 25 – May 20, 2025

Age-appropriate crafting for our youngest students in our forest classroom. We’ll engage in a broad range of games, crafts, and other activities learning to translate artistic vision into reality in nature.

Ages 9-12

Wild Crafters

February 25 – May 20, 2025

We harvest and utilize natural materials and learn a bunch of crafting skills while playing games and connecting with activities focused nature & community.

Blacksmithing – All Levels

February 25 – May 20, 2025

Create useful tools by heating metal in the forge and shaping it on the anvil. Students will come home with beautiful and useful handmade items created using many techniques.

Heartwood: Acorns

Our core nature-connection curriculum offers a progressive learning journey with games, stories, and exploration in the natural world, beginning here with our youngest age bracket.

Heartwood: Saplings

February 26 – May 21, 2025

Saplings is for children to continue to grow into greater awareness and maturity, with increased challenges and deepening level of inquiry, as they set roots in the forest.

Heartwood: Oaks

February 26 – May 21, 2025

The Oaks provides an opportunity for long-term nature connection students to continue challenging themselves in a group of peers who share their ability & passion. Application is require.

Thursdays

Mountain Dwellers

February 27 – May 22, 2025

Students will learn the practical skills of old-time mountain camping, venturing into the forest to find, build and inhabit their own deep woods campsite and learn important survival skills.

Create beautiful functional pieces exploring the full range of clay with handbuilding, wheel-throwing, and surface decoration in our newest artisan endeavor.

Main Forest Location

Our main forest location is at Shope Creek Wilderness, in Asheville. We offer most of our programs here. Shope Creek Wilderness is our forested mountain campus.

In-town Location

Our In-town location is Haw Creek Commons. We offer select programs here, and have our Shope Creek shuttle base. Haw Creek Commons is a community co-work and activity center where Forest Floor has a presence.

Southside Location

Our Southside location is at Hutch Mountain, in Fletcher. We offer select programs here. Hutch Mountain programs take place on private land with Forest Floor mentors.

Drop-Off & Pick-Up

All Shope Creek programs may drop-off and pick-up at Haw Creek Commons for van transportation to Shope Creek. Direct drop-off and pickup at Shope Creek is also available.

All Haw Creek programs only offer direct drop-off and pick-up at Haw Creek Commons.

Our newest location at Hutch Mountain also offers only direct drop-off and pick-up at the program location.
